About Jennifer Lyn Parsons

My Background

My formative years as a designer were spent in the pre-press room of a local newspaper group. The timing was perfect as I found myself in this position during the internet boom of the nineties and was open to the flood of innovation. I loved being on the cusp of all this amazing technology, embracing its possibilities as I learned web design on my own time and began my freelance work as soon as I understood what a domain name was and how to get one.

After the newspaper, I moved on to agency work and learned the true value of branding and further developed my strict attention to detail. This solid background gave me a foundation set of skills that serve me to this day: computers are your friends more than your enemies, design is both beautiful art and serious business, and adhering to deadlines is vital to success.

My Style

In my work, I aspire to do something unique with the web, to tap into the energy currents of the human conversation among the bits and bytes.

I like to work efficiently, but without rushing a project to completion. The end product should never suffer for a hastily-made decision.

I also have a strange affection for production work (the result of all that newspaper experience) and love to work as part of a team, bringing other designers' plans and visions to fruition.

Just Me

And now a bit on the personal end of things for you, in case you're wondering. I love to read, write, knit, crochet, take apart and fix my computers, bind books, and cook awesome food. I watch more British television than any other American I know, I've loved Batman since I was three, and I was born on the same day as Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Christopher Reeve (Superman), thereby cementing my geek credentials from birth. Also, I truly do use words like “thereby” in conversation.
